When novelist Kate Ivory meets up with old friend Faith Breton, the last thing she wants is to be drawn into the untidy politics of Faith’s college, Bartlemas. After all, Kate has a book to write. Faith, who is Dean of Women Students, wants Kate’s impartial opinion on a female student who has put in a formal complaint about her tutor. Daisy Tompkins looks as though butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth, but Faith believes she is devious and out to ruin Joseph Fechan’s career.
